I heard about the citizen’s initiative on KCPW this morning. My wife and I are registered democrats. I have been a democratic delegate and district organizer in the distant past. I organized all the caucuses in my district (many precincts) about 8 years ago. I did quite a bit of volunteer work. I dropped out several years ago because I was disillusioned with representatives like Matheson. I have a business. The cost of the health care I give my employees (Altius) has gone up an average of 15% every year for the last eight years. This year it will go up 12%. And they are one of the better companies at controlling costs. This year our personal health care (Blue Cross, through my wife’s law firm) is going up 27% and we can no longer get gap insurance. Several times during the last eight years I’ve tried to get Mr. Matheson’s attention on health care costs. He has basically ignored me. I wrote him a letter a few days ago saying I’d rather see the republican win (although at the time I didn’t know there might be a credible challenge to Matheson at convention). I’d like to find out more about candidate Claudia Wright. I think it is likely I’d be willing to try to get the democrats in my district organized again and get as many delegates in my district as possible to vote for her at the convention. Please contact me. I need to see if anyone has been appointed by the party to head my district. If not, I’ll volunteer. If so, I can still attend the caucus and do what I can to help Claudia. Please contact me at my office 801-572-7436 or on my cell 801-652-5121. I would really like to see Matheson defeated.
I am a lifelong Democrat, worked on Matheson's first campaign and then on Peter C's. I feel strongly that healthcare is a basic human right, and as such am very disapointed in Jim Matheson. I have come to believe that our elected representatives in Washington do not represent the people, rather their own ambitions. I have been searching for a way to try to make a difference. I live in Precint 2567 (13th East to Filmore St/27th S to Parkway) and would like to be a delegate. If you share my thoughts on healthcare and other progressive issues, contact me and/or come to the mass meeting at the Columbus Center on March 23 and support my bid to be a delegate.
After Mr. Matheson's refusal to back the health care initiative I have decided I need to look for a better Democrat to represent me. I look foward to learning more about Claudia Wright as a viable candidate in the next election.
I am curious . . . now that Health Insurance Reform is the law of the land (no thanks to Matheson), what Democrat in Utah will now push back, call out, or otherwise make an issue out of Shurtleff's attempt to deny Utahns, especially those of lower and middle-class status, access to the law that the manority of AMERICANS will enjoy?
. . . just askin'? . . .
We are looking for people to join and expand this MeetUp group.
All of you are welcome to join us!!!

Does anyone here understand the true meaning of progressivism? Clearly you do not. If healthcare was a basic human right than Doctors should give it away free. What next? Right to shelter? Will you pay my house payment? The more you create dependence upon the government, the less people will go out and learn how to servive on thier own! I will vote for someone who respects the constitution that has giving Americans the great lives that we have enjoyed for over two hundred years.
How will you feel if you lose your job, health insurance and someone in your family gets very ill? Many American's haven't enjoyed the great life you seemed to have enjoyed? Are you willing to give up all the other social benefits you enjoy? Lastly, don't you care about your fellow human beings? Nobody asked for a handout as it's insurance that has to be purchased.
We should give healthcare away "free" as a society. We should pay taxes, and when anyone gets sick, his or her healthcare should be provided, as in pretty much every other industrialized democracy in the world, for free. Single payer or bust.
Just got back from an enjoyable, informative evening with Claudia at the Painted Pony in St. George! It was great to meet her and learn more about her thoughts on government and issues that are important to folks. Looking forward to working on her Southern Utah Campaign leading up to the State Convention in Salt Lake on May 8. Please contact your County Chairperson if you're interested in being a delegate for Claudia. The Democratic Convention is open to all; you don't need to be a registered Democrat.
My name is Steven Barone and my wife and I live in Washington City, Utah. You can count on our support Claudia. I am extremely disappointed in Congressman Matheson. Not only did he fail to show up at a healthcare town hall last summer, he could never give an answer to how we was going to vote on the reform bill. I made it known to his staffers that if he voted against reform that he would never receive another vote from either my wife or myself. I am sticking to my word and am so glad to see that you will be challenging him for the nomination. You can count on both of us to be in your camp. All the best to you Claudia! We can hardly wait to see you in office!
I just donated $50 to Claudia Wright's campaign.I can't stand corporate Democrats. There shouldn't be any such thing and Jim Matheson is a prime example. Health care is a basic human right and when he voted against it, it was the 'straw that broke the camels back' for me. Universal healthcare is in the Democratic Party Platform and any Democrat who doesn't support it should become a Republican. Any losses resulting from not supporting Blue Dog Democrats would be more than offset by a party-wide gain in integrity.
Claudia, Almost every day I get an email or a letter from Jim Matheson, asking for my support at the state convention. I am very upset, disappointed, and frustrated with Matheson's health care vote, and I agree with your platform. I am just wondering–is there any way that you can become more visible????? I think the delegates need to know that you are actively campaigning to win the support of the democratic party. Don't be shy!!! Get out there and make yourself known to the masses. A email to all the caucus delegates would be a great start. Just trying to help!
Thank you for your concern and interest.
We have made a conscious effort to hold back for a bit to allow the candidates from Salt Lake County to be in the limelight.
We are now in full operational mode to win at the State Party Convention on May 8th.
I appreciate your concern and keep in mind, our campaign is totally made up of volunteers while Matheson's people are all on the payroll.
We have the passion and the message to win in May and November.
I hope to meet with you at the Salt Palace on May 8th.

Claudia needs our $$ support to make herself "more visible."Go to Think Blue and contribute! As a delegate, I'm being deluged by a machine that seems to think we need Matheson to elect Corroon as governor. Are you kidding me? His own BROTHER was on the ballot and we couldn't elect him. Matheson betrayed our basic principles in a vote that was critical to my family and me. It *is* all about healthcare. And as Nancy Pelosi said on the House floor, "it's personal." We can win with a positive progressive message without pandering to a "conservative base."
BTW: I received an e-mail from Claudia telling me what to expect as a new delegate to county convention. It was appreciated!
Thanks for speaking so well for us. It is weird how we keep crossing paths but have never met. I too am a delegate and have been innundated by that odd push to vote for Jim to vote for Peter. I am supporting Claudia. Is there anyway to make it clear that we (non-Matheson delegates) have been squelched by the Democratic(?) Party of Utah and their campaign to avoid a vote.
I am tired of having a corporate-funded representative like Matheson with a D behind his name. He doesn’t care what his constituents think. My experience over the past year is that of many other of his constituents: Mr Matheson goes out of his way to avoid us, ignore us, and has paid staff that treats us with disrespect.
Claudia Wright is a breath of fresh air. A lifelong Democrat who represents the core principles of the Democratic Party, she can sway voters with her concise delivery of commonsense ideas. It is wonderful to see Claudia inspiring more and more voters every time she speaks. Imagine returning our government to the people. As a citizen I endorse Claudia Wright. She has taken the pledge not to accept corporate money. The people of Utah, not corporations, will propel her to the nomination on May 8 and then send her to DC in November.
I completely agree with Nancy! Matheson’s attachment to corporate money is his biggest downfall, because it forces him to do what’s in the interest of the huge companies funding his campaign rather than what’s in the interest of real people like you and me. I fully embrace Claudia’s stance on corporate money in politics, and will do whatever I can to help her win the nomination and then the general election.
I was inspired by Claudia’s campaign and speech at today’s Democratic convention. I’m very excited about the upcoming primary election and look forward to, finally, having a candidate for Congress that I am proud to vote FOR. Ten years of listening to Mr. Matheson’s platitudes and excuses for repeatedly voting against nearly every progressive issue in Congress is way too long.
I grew up beleiving that if the majority voted in a president that person should be backed as leader. Yet when Obama tries to put this country back together the leaders in the states find loop holes to change things back, or take more from the citizens…as if we are being punished for voting this man in. Obama is running this country …by doing what he believes to be best for us. He said to vote for him if we wanted change…I Want CHANGE. But the state, county, city, governments keep changing things back. For instance: County couldn’t get the taxes they wanted so we now have a FEE, as do all businesses, churches, etc. This is BIG money, more than the taxes that are being collected and more than the 7% cut in budget that supposedly prompted this. Now I hear the city of Taylorsville was given the exact same fee (same $amount) for drainage fees???? When asked why we the people weren’t consulted (as we have many ideas on how to increase the money they seem to need)we are told…”oh..it isn’t a tax so we don’t have to ask you!” Peter Carroon signed off on this too…what a disappointment. I tell you Claudie Wright…the people will be listening to you if you dig into some of these so called fees…who is getting them and how much they are really going to bring. We have been threatened with property liens if we don’t pay. We the people are being HOSED! Every business that has to pay that fee now is unable to offer us the same discounts or prices that other cities and counties get…because they have to pay this additional fee…so again the people in the county (Magna and other needy places) will have to pay higher prices in everything. I really feel like this is a way to say: Igore the president and do whatever we want. I don’t like it. I voted for the president and half of Utah did which set a president! Anyway…get busy and see what else the local govn’t has found loop holes on…what else they childishly refuse to accept and change to meet their needs instead of the peoples needs.
When I saw this announcement on the news I was so surprised to see the teacher that changed my life as I knew it regarding politics so many years ago. You see I was a student of MS. Wrights, she always had her students do a big project for her class as well as the regular school work. When I was a student my assignment was to work for a political campaign which is it not a coinciident that I worked for the first time round for Govenor Scott Matheson! I was touched by his campaign and the work I was able to do for him, I actually was featured on tv as the announcement he had won and I was the special person he shook hands with as this was happening. If it had not been for Claudia Wright and her history class I never would have been introduced to politics in such a way.
I do believe that for the best of the people of Utah she is the only one to vote for. I would like to do anything needed to help; either in Salt Lake or my other place of residency – Vernal, Utah. Just let me know what you need or want done and I would be honored to help.

And I would like to extend a huge thank you for touching my life in such the way you did and in the way you changed my life.

Listen to Matheson’s campaign advert. He opposed President
Bush on Utah lands. He deliberately ignores to say he opposed President Obama on Health care. Then, the question is what is
Matheson’s party in congress? He is not a Republican. He is not a
Democrat. At election time he pretends to be a Democrat. Let us
elect a Democrat this time around. That is why Claudia Wright is
the answer. No true democrat should encourage party betrayers
by encouraging politicians who ride into parliament on the back of
a political party only to become political bats when they get there.
We all know that bats are birds because they can fly and they are
allowed to attend meetings of animals because they have teeth.
